{"id":1479,"date":"2013-02-02T15:46:27","date_gmt":"2013-02-02T15:46:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hibbittbarnes.uk\/blog\/?p=1479"},"modified":"2025-07-02T12:50:30","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T11:50:30","slug":"postman-spoils-long-awaited-ww2-homecoming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hibbittbarnes.uk\/blog\/postman-spoils-long-awaited-ww2-homecoming","title":{"rendered":"Postman Spoils Long-Awaited WW2 Homecoming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I remember my Gran (<strong><a title=\"Phyllis Grace Geake, nee Weaver\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hibbitt.org.uk\/familytree\/fam1848.html\">Phyllis Grace Geake, nee Weaver<\/a><\/strong>) once telling me what happened the day my Grandpa (<strong><a title=\"William Hellyer Geake\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hibbitt.org.uk\/familytree\/fam1848.html\">William Hellyer Geake<\/a><\/strong>) arrived home from the second world war, having been away for four years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was fairly early in the morning when Grandpa got home and his arrival coincided with that of the postman (or it might have been the milkman but I think it was the former). The postman knew Grandpa and proceeded to ask him all about his time away in the war and stood at the doorstep chatting for 5 or 10 minutes. How insensitive! All the while, Gran was waiting to greet the husband she hadn&#8217;t seen for such a long time. In addition to this, Grandpa had never even met his 4 year old daughter, who was more than a little coy at the sight of this strange man in their house!
